Today's Governor General's
In 1967 with the consent and encouragement of Governor-General Roland Michener, the membership of the Governor-General's Curling Club was increased to a maximum of 100 with representation from across Canada. In 1972 a constitution was written and approved by Governor-General Michener which added a new category of 25 emeritus members. Emeritus member status has been reserved for those members who have made an ongoing commitment to the operation and success of the club.
Since that time the main focus of the Club has been to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to curling, whether it be locally, provincially or nationally, not only as competitive curlers, but also as builders and administrators. Some of its members are legends of the game. One of its objectives is to promote the growth of curling in Canada and preserve its history.
Annual Safari
Annually, members of the Governor General’s Curling Club meet for four days of fellowship; the location changes yearly. This gathering is known as the Governor General’s Curling Club Safari.
These Safaris provide members with opportunities to strengthen bonds, share experiences and celebrate their shared passion for curling. Events typically include social activities and cultural excursions, the Annual General Meeting, a formal dinner, and the induction of new members.

150 Years
In September 2024, The Governor General’s Curling Club celebrated it’s 150th Anniversary at the Safari held in Ottawa, the Club’s original home in 1874.
We hosted and welcomed members, new inductees, scholars and guests from World Curling, Curling Canada, provincial and local curling representatives at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club for our Sesquicentennial. A very special occasion with great golf, pickleball, a city of Ottawa tour and private visits to Rideau Hall, the RCMP Stables and the Senate Chambers. Three local curling clubs warmly welcomed and hosted us during this very special anniversary year, the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, the RCMP Curling Club and the RA Centre.
