Governor General Patronage
Since its inception in 1874, Governor Generals have extended their patronage to the Governor General’s Curling Club. The development of curling in Canada, especially in the country’s early years from Confederation to the First World War, was in no small part due to the continuous support received from the Governors General.
The Governor General plays a key role in promoting national identity by supporting and promoting Canadian values, diversity, inclusion, culture and heritage. As such, the Governor General is patron of many community, charitable, military and cultural associations, as well as public service organizations, lending them vital support and recognition for their outstanding contributions to society.
In July 2021, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, was sworn in as Canada’s 30th Governor General. She is the first Indigenous person to hold the office since Confederation. The Governor General plays a key role in promoting national identity by supporting and promoting Canadian values: Diversity, Culture and Knowledge. The Governor General’s Curling Club supports the very same values and has objectives to promote the growth of curling in Canada and preserve its history.
Right: Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon,
Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada
