Governor General's Trophy

On February 21, 2026, the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club hosted a prestigious match for the Governor General's Trophy. Representing Quebec was the Pointe Claire Curling Club, while the Cornwall Curling Centre represented the Ottawa Valley. Pointe Claire emerged as the winner. The Governor General’s Trophy is a double rink competition between teams from curling clubs in the Ottawa Valley and Western Quebec, established in 1874.

 

We were honoured to welcome His Excellency Whit Fraser, the Governor General’s consort, again this year. Bill Woods can be seen in the background of photographs with His Excellency, while Dave Stanley stood next to him and served as an excellent master of ceremonies for the evening. Jim Campbell, past president of the Governor General’s Curling Club, extended a warm welcome to both teams and their guests, and also officially closed the event.


His Excellency attended in a Team Canada hockey jersey and delivered a brief address, including a toast to Canada and the King.


Bill Woods provided guests with a succinct history of the competition, discussing its origins. The winning team's name will be embroidered onto the event banner, which they may display at their club.


The women's teams competed for the Lady Tweedsmuir trophy. Representing the Ottawa Valley was the Rideau Curling Club and representing Quebec was Pointe Claire Curling Club. The Rideau Curling Club claimed the trophy,
